Part 59 - letter from a friend

Vinh.

Wow! it seems like you have had a very unique experience. Im very glad to hear from you and for you to tell me honestly how things have been, but it makes me sad to hear some of these things. Im glad you told me though. These things; this is real life, people hurting and being rejected. It is sad. I hate that you ended up being treated badly too but glad you were strong in not letting those things take over you.

This is something I also learned more about; that the world can be a very harsh place and the people in it can be very harsh to one another. This is why I went on the trip that I did; the trip I was on when I met you on the bus. We were on this trip to show people love who may not be loved by anyone else, because Jesus loves them so much and we wanted them to know that they are not alone, that they are loved. Like your friend Chi Oanh who is made fun of by the community for something that she can not change about herself. She didn't ask to have HIV, but she does and now she has to live with HIV. So why would other people laugh at her for that? If anything, it seems like people should have sympathy for her.

People can be very mean and hateful, as you know, but I believe that Jesus loves these people so much! And not only the people who are treated badly, but also the people who are being hateful. Even Ong Kin, he may be a very hateful and selfish man, but there is something wrong with him. Something has made him that way, something has influenced him and created that hate inside of him. Maybe its the god he meditates on or some other evil influence. But Jesus loves him too. Jesus does not love what he does or how he treats people, but loves him because he is not beyond changing.

I don't know if I can explain this to you very well but I think you can understand it because you seem to have compassion and to love these people yourself. Like the way that you didn't care about what people said about you for spending time with Chi Oanh. You showed her love when no one else would, and maybe even at an expense of yourself. And the way that you are giving your money to help her; these things are very much like Jesus' character. I think you know and understand what I mean.

I will pray for your friends, but Vinh, you can also pray. It is very simple. I know it will sound very crazy but I think you will be surprised at what you find if you try.
You can just start talking to Jesus as if he is there in the room with you. it doesn't have to be out loud, it can be quiet, like talking in your head, but you are talking to Jesus. You can start asking him for things you want to see, like for Chi Oanh to be comforted, or for her to be provided for, or even for her to be healed! You can ask that Jesus would change Ong Kin's heart, for evil not to be there. And you can talk to him about personal things in your own life if you want. He will be listening.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I hope you are doing better now that you are back home.
your friend,
Jonathan
